What
Does Narconon Mean
Narconon comes
from two
Greek words, "Narco" meaning drug and "non" meaning no.
Narconon therefore means "Drug-No".
What is
the Narconon Program
The Narconon
Nevada program
itself is unique in its entirety. A number of components make up
Narconon's
high success rate. Foremost, you must understand Narconon is not a
traditional
12 step program. Most treatment centers today rely on a combination of
12 step
recovery methods along with group therapy to handle the addiction
problem.
While some people respond to this type of treatment, unfortunately the
majority
does not. In fact, similar to the staggeringly low percentage of people
who are
able to stop on their own, only 10 to 20 percent of people who go
through
traditional treatment successfully end their drug or alcohol using
"career"
for life. At Narconon, just the opposite is happening. Approximately 7
out of
10 people permanently conquer their addiction after completing the
program.
Three areas of the program stand out from traditional programs and are
addressed with emphasis at Narconon:
1. Physical
Detoxification
- Long-term use of addictive drugs can cause an accumulation of drug
residues
and metabolites in the body. These residues can remain in the body for
years,
causing drug and alcohol cravings along with drug-induced depression.
Narconon
uses an intensive sauna regiment of detoxification that permanently
removes
these residues, resulting in an individual who is free of the harmful
physical
effects of mind-altering drugs.
2. Life Skills
- Many
people do not realize that some of the most common abilities and skills
which
they use everyday are not instinctual, but rather are learned. These
are all
areas in which drug addicts and alcoholics have been found to be
deficient.
These are NOT instinctive abilities. They require training and practice
to
perfect. The Narconon program gives heavy emphasis to life-skills
training.
Some of the areas addressed are communication skills, study skills, and
applying ethical principles in everyday life. The result is an
individual more
comfortable with their life and less likely to be overwhelmed by it.
The
practice of these skills is extremely therapeutic.
3. Therapeutic
Procedures -
There are a number of therapeutic procedures unique to the Narconon
program.
These therapies are designed to free a person from the guilt, remorse,
and
regret of past actions. It restores the self-control that is inevitably
sacrificed when a person becomes addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Narconon's
Success Rate
Narconon has a
60%-80%
success rate. This is outstanding in the field of drug abuse and
alcoholism
treatment. Today we are setting new trends in approach methods used all
over
the world. Compared with traditional centers, Narconon Nevada should be considered
when one is
seriously looking for a permanent solution to drug and alcohol
addiction.
Who Can Enroll
in the Program?
People from all
walks of
life and from all over the United States come to Narconon Nevada for treatment. Ages
range from
18-65 years with a gender participation rate of usually around 40%
female and
60% male at any one time. If the student is under the age of 18, please
call or
email us for more information.
Length
of the Program
The entire
Narconon program
takes between 3-5 months to complete. The difference in time depends on
each
individual and what is required for them. We have a motto here at
Narconon Nevada which says: "It takes
as long
as it takes!"
